Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
Because God has promised to be our guide and He has promised to be with us through all of our troubles, why do we insist on going it alone? Is it because of pride, because we believe that we need to learn to resolve our own issues? Is it because we don't trust God to come through for us? What does it mean, anyway, to to hand over your troubles to the Lord?
In the face of my own recent challenges I have been giving this some thought, and I feel that we should consider it in this light; The Lord is my father, and He sees me as a child in distress that is in need of comfort and assistance. Maybe you would consider this as a little demeaning; after all, we are supposed to be independent people capable of fending for ourselves, we don't need babying! But in reality this is one of the most wonderful gifts that God has offered, why should we be offended by it?
The feeling of love, warmth and comfort that we remember as children in distress when we were held by our parents is the same as we get when held by God. The love is almost indescribable - God knows what we need, He knows how we need to be comforted, and He understands our troubles. He also knows the best plan for our future, so even if you feel that God is not answering your distress calls, be comforted in this promise: He has heard you, and He will respond.
For whatever reason it is that you are trying to handle life's worries on your own, here's my challenge to you.
Give over to God your father ALL of the troubles, worries, concerns, pain and challenges that you are facing RIGHT NOW. Do it. Let God comfort you just as you would comfort your own child. Believe that God WANTS to carry the weight of these burdens for you. Believe that He will lead to to the right path, and know that he understands you.
